The Opportunity

We offer an estimated salary of $45,000 - $65,000 per annum for this role, depending on experience. Experience: 1+ years of experience in sports writing. Writing about High School football and Basketball is highly preferred.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of American Football/Basketball and its culture. They should be able to write engaging articles daily (around 400-450 words each) including features, listicles, news updates, and exclusive interviews, focusing on High School football and Basketball.

  • Write 4-5 high-quality articles daily, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all content.
  • Pitch fresh story ideas and support the vertical lead in crafting content plans around significant events and news.
  • Cover all relevant news within your shift, ensuring timely updates and no backlog for the next shift.
  • Source stories from leading news outlets, social media sites, and podcasts.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in college and high school sports (football and basketball), including player performances, team dynamics, and key events.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Basic understanding of American Football/Basketball and its culture.
  • Proven skills in content strategy, editing, and topic ideation.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with local football/basketball communities and their dynamics.
  • A network within the high school football/basketball community is advantageous.
