Power Electronics Engineer Job Description

The role of a Power Electronics Engineer involves designing and developing high-voltage power systems for electric vehicles. This includes DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, inverters, and battery management interfaces.

  • This engineer will lead the development of these systems, defining system architecture and component specifications to ensure seamless integration with other vehicle components.
  • They will oversee simulation, modeling, and analysis of power electronics circuits using specialized tools like PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or LTspice.
  • The Power Electronics Engineer will also be responsible for guiding PCB layout for high-power designs, ensuring compliance with electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations, as well as thermal management.
  • Additionally, they will drive validation and testing of prototypes in lab and vehicle environments, evaluating and selecting components such as IGBTs, SiC/GaN FETs, gate drivers, magnetics, and capacitors.
  • This role requires strong understanding of automotive standards and protocols, as well as experience with agile methods and toolsets such as JIRA, SCRUM, KANBAN, and product development life cycles.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in HV Systems engineering, Battery Management System design, and lead position.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, safety protocols, and thermal management.
  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent discipline, with relevant work experience.
