Data Infrastructure Specialist

This position involves managing and planning the administration of technology in a specific area. You will work with team members to ensure that technology effectively supports enterprise systems.

• Analyze existing database systems and recommend improvements.
• Work with the IT Manager to establish database security structures and ensure Sox compliance.
• Manage and maintain Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) clusters, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Administer and monitor Apache Kafka (open-source) clusters, including topic management, performance tuning, and security.
• Perform database administration for Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL systems, including backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell scripting and Ansible for deployment, monitoring, and configuration management.
• Collaborate with data engineers and developers to optimize data pipelines and ensure data integrity across platforms.
• Implement and maintain security best practices across all data platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the data stack in a timely manner.
• Fix ongoing issues, take full ownership of the environment, and act as an individual contributor.
• Create and maintain database access systems, including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Administer database replication between servers, across Local Area Network and Wide Area Network.
• Tune and optimize database objects.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support.
• Provide technical input to solution development plans and concept documents.
• Demonstrate understanding of business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT-owned solutions.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal form in a cross-functional setting with business partners.
• Share knowledge and actively mentor less experienced IT Administrators.
• Perform and plan major version upgrades.
• Design and implement effective monitoring of enterprise systems.
• Tune systems using experience and deep knowledge of the area.
• Foresee risks, communicate, and mitigate those before problems arise.
• Document technical designs and procedures for the team library.
• Plan and manage technical projects involving other teams.
• Communicate technology effectively to non-technical associates and management.
• Recognize and understand technology impacts within the business.
• Contribute to technical research on new technologies, processes, or procedures with a desire to continuously learn new technologies.

1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or another relevant field, AND a minimum of 6 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
2. Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge.
3. Fluency in English is required.
4. Experience with Relational or NoSQL database technologies.
5. Demonstrated ability to implement new technologies effectively.
6. Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting.
7. Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization.
8. Experience with Big Data Technologies supporting a broad variety of solutions, including HDFS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elastic, SQL Server.
