Technical Advocate Role

As a pioneer in the open-source community, we serve millions of developers who build for the cloud, IoT, and data science. Our mission is to make open-source development easier and more reliable for innovators and enterprises.

We have established a new technical advocacy team to engage directly with open-source communities and developer-centric organizations. Our goal is to communicate our vision and products for better open-source development experiences while fostering a two-way feedback loop to shape our offerings and priorities.

A Technical Advocate combines technical expertise with diplomacy, empathy, and communication skills. This role requires a deep understanding of developers' needs and a passion for finding innovative solutions to complex problems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in product meetings to provide technical insights and expertise
  • Maintaining conversations with developer community members across various platforms
  • Collaborating with colleagues from other teams to establish common approaches and best practices
  • Solving technical problems identified by users or colleagues
  • Contributing to technical documentation to ensure developer needs are met
  • Creating technical articles, presentations, and workshops to promote open-source development
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in the developer experience
  • Presenting at conferences, meetups, and technical events

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should be:

  • A programmer or developer with a strong passion for open-source software
  • Familiar with real-world challenges in developing and deploying software using Linux
  • Experienced in Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • Aware of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
  • A contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation
  • An engaging speaker and presenter
  • Able to work effectively in contexts with diverse perspectives, needs, and understanding
  • Willing to travel globally for company events and upstream/partner events
