Configuration Manager Role Overview

At Eximietas Design, we are seeking a detail-oriented Configuration Manager to join our development and engineering project team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining configuration control over software and system components, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and project-specific guidelines. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, security, and traceability of all configuration items (CIs) across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a configuration management (CM) plan for the project that outlines procedures.
  • Implement configuration management processes, policies, and tools to control CIs throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Oversee the versioning of all software artifacts, ensuring the correct versions of tools, scripts, and environments are used across various environments (development, test, and production).
  • Define and establish baselines for code, documentation, and hardware components, ensuring traceability of all CIs from development through to production.
  • Manage change requests to ensure that all changes to configuration items are documented, approved, and communicated properly.
  • Conduct regular configuration audits to ensure configuration items are implemented correctly and adhere to the CM plan.
  • Generate reports to track the status of CIs and change requests.
  • Work closely with development, DevOps, and testing teams to synchronize and manage all configuration changes effectively.
  • Implement and manage configuration management tools such as Git, Jenkins, or Ansible, ensuring they are properly configured and used by the team.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all configuration items, processes, and configuration management activities.

Requirements:
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Configuration Manager in software development, engineering, or DevOps environments.
  • Proficient in version control systems (Git, SVN), CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bamboo), and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Strong understanding of change control processes and experience managing complex software environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for accuracy in configuration tracking.
  • Effective communicator with cross-functional teams to manage configuration changes and impacts.
  • Ability to resolve configuration management issues, including software or hardware conflicts.
  • Understanding of DevOps principles, including CI/CD and the role of configuration management within the DevOps lifecycle.
