Airport Infrastructure Design Engineer Role Overview

The Infrastructure Design Engineer is responsible for detailed airfield and landside infrastructure design, including runways, taxiways, aprons, aircraft stands, roads, and parking facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design geometric layouts for airside and landside infrastructure.
  • Develop grading plans, earthworks balance, and cut-and-fill calculations.
  • Create design drawings and Bills of Quantities extracted from BIM models.
  • Design airfield and landside signing & marking layouts according to international standards.
  • Optimize stand and gate design for safe aircraft operations and adequate fueling systems integration.

Simulation and Modeling:

  • Use AviPLAN for aircraft movement simulation and taxiway layout validation.
  • Conduct GSE simulations for apron operations optimization and gate service layouts.
  • Apply BIM tools for 3D coordination, clash detection, and multi-discipline integration.

Codes, Standards, and Compliance:

  • Apply international aviation and road design standards directly in the design process.
  • Ensure compliance with safety areas, separation distances, obstacle clearance, and marking/signing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in airport/transportation design software is an asset.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in airport or transportation infrastructure design.
  • Proven track record in geometric design of airside and landside infrastructure.
  • Strong background in multidisciplinary coordination with drainage, utilities, and fueling systems.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, AviPLAN, BIM (Navisworks), AutoTURN.
  • Strong knowledge of international aviation and road design standards.
  • Ability to apply codes and standards directly in design solutions.
  • Solid understanding of aircraft operational envelopes and turning radii.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and coordination skills.
