Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our database systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Management and Optimization

You will be responsible for administering, configuring, and maintaining relational and/or non-relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB). This includes optimizing database performance through indexing, query tuning, and resource monitoring, as well as implementing and maintaining database maintenance plans, including backups, statistics updates, and consistency checks.

Security and Compliance

You will manage user access and roles following the principle of least privilege, ensuring that databases comply with internal data security policies and external regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). You will also perform audits, track changes, and implement data encryption and masking where necessary.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery

You will design and implement high-availability database solutions, including clustering, replication, and failover. You will develop and test backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure minimal downtime by proactively monitoring health and performance of databases.

Support and Collaboration

You will work closely with software developers, DevOps engineers, data analysts, and system architects to provide support for database design during development projects and troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including corruption, slow queries, deadlocks, and connectivity errors.

Monitoring and Reporting

You will use tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Profiler, SolarWinds, or Nagios to monitor systems and generate performance, security, and usage reports for stakeholders. You will also develop custom scripts for monitoring, automation, and alerting.

Requirements:
  • Expertise in Database Administration

Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems, including optimization and performance tuning.

Knowledge of Security and Compliance

Familiarity with data security policies and external regulatory requirements, such as GDPR and HIPAA.

Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery

Hands-on experience with high-availability database solutions, including clustering, replication, and failover.

Collaboration and Communication Skills

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to stakeholders.
