Strategic Procurement Specialist

At Social Synthesis, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Procurement Operations Manager to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of goods and services that support our organizational objectives and network member needs.
About UsSocial Synthesis is a global health non-profit organization dedicated to making it easier for people in the developing world to be healthy and plan their families by marketing affordable health products and services. We have a portfolio of healthcare products and medicines that support prevention and treatment, and we are focused on improving the way we do business and collaborating with influencers who are involved in healthcare decisions.
This role is part of our effort to align procurement and supply chain activities with organizational goals and ensure sustainable supply chain solutions. As a Procurement Operations Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end procurement process, enforce quality assurance standards, and ensure compliance with donor and organizational policies.
Your ContributionWe estimate that this role will contribute significantly to our mission, and we offer a competitive salary of $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Here are some key aspects of the role:
- Procurement Management (55%): Oversee procurement operations to meet the needs of network members efficiently and cost-effectively, collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of goods and services aligned with project timelines and requirements.
- Quality Assurance (10%): Develop and enforce quality assurance protocols to comply with donor requirements and PSI policies, conduct regular process reviews to ensure compliance, identify gaps, and propose actionable improvements.
- Team Supervision and Capacity Building (15%): Lead and supervise direct reports, offering guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth, strengthen the procurement and supply chain competencies of team members through targeted training, coaching, and mentorship initiatives.
- Management Reporting and Stakeholder Communication (5%): Prepare and deliver status updates and management information reports on procurement and supply chain activities, share key insights with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals and maintain transparency.
- New Product and Vendor Development (15%): Identify and evaluate potential new vendors for PSI products, conducting thorough due diligence, perform market mapping to introduce innovative health commodities into PSI's portfolio.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A postgraduate degree in Business, Operation Management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of professional purchasing experience, with equivalent combination of relevant education and experience substituted.
- Experience working in a donor-funded environment required, experience in a pharmaceutical commercial organization would be preferred.
- Basic knowledge of relevant funder regulations.
- Ability to draft moderate to complex bidding and contractual instruments, maintain complete confidentiality for sensitive issues and information.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments, working knowledge of international freight movements and INCOTERMS.
- Fluency in English, fluency in French and/or Spanish preferred.
