Linux Software Repository Maintainer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Linux software repository maintainer to ensure the integrity of our software repository through updates, upgrades, and patches.

This is not a systems administrator role, but rather a specialized position focused on maintaining and updating software repositories.

  • Responsibilities include:
  1. Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of software repository data.
  2. Compiling and creating software from source code using GCC and its flags.
  3. Maintaining software dependencies and tracking changes.
  4. Patching, creating, and managing software patches.
  5. Creating Makefiles as necessary.
  6. Monitoring CVEs and maintaining changelogs.
  7. Providing bug fixes and debugging with GDB.
  8. Reviewing changes and connecting with upstream developers for issue resolution.

Additionally, we value skills in Slackware Linux, as priority will be given to candidates with knowledge of this distribution.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Linux, bash scripting, C, and Python.
  • Experience with build system tools like autotools, meson, ninja, cmake, make, pkg-config, scons, and more.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently within specified timeframes.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Debian-based distributions and knowledge of the Linux kernel.
