Job Title: Climate Adaptation Expert

Key Responsibilities:
  • Integrate adaptation priorities into national climate frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.
  • Conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems, leveraging technical expertise to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Apply advanced climate models and risk analytics to prioritize adaptation responses and optimize resource allocation.
  • Develop actionable plans with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates for proposed adaptation measures.
  • Evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of interventions and identify relevant financing sources to support climate resilience efforts.
  • Collaborate on funding proposal development for climate adaptation initiatives, targeting international mechanisms like the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
  • Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups to ensure equitable adaptation planning.
  • Align adaptation strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans to foster long-term sustainability.
  • Contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems, ensuring Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) compliance.
  • Develop high-quality technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide evidence-based policy recommendations to strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as climate science, environmental studies, or sustainable development.
  • 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields, with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Strong proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies, with a focus on vulnerability assessment and risk management.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections, including data analysis and visualization.
  • Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms, including GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs.
  • Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development, with a focus on capacity building and knowledge sharing.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles, with expertise in ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
