DCS System Engineer Job Description

This role involves overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) projects, encompassing requirement analysis, design, engineering, factory acceptance testing (FAT)/site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning. Key responsibilities include onsite loop checking, system configuration, and troubleshooting. Additionally, DCS module, I/O card, and HMI logic manual testing will be performed.

The successful candidate will validate various communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, OPC, HART, and TCP/IP. Furthermore, they will generate and review wiring diagrams, IO lists, terminal layouts, and coordinate shop floor activities. Preparing and executing FAT/SAT documents and interfacing directly with customers during validation are also key aspects of this role.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams including commissioning, quality assurance, and controls engineering is essential. Utilizing test management tools such as JIRA, HP ALM, and TestLink for documentation and defect tracking is also required. This position demands strong expertise in manual testing methodologies, knowledge of industrial protocols and interface standards, and experience in wiring diagram preparation, cable routing, panel layouts, and bill of materials (BOM) preparation.

Ideal candidates should have a minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience on major DCS platforms, proven experience in DCS project execution, and excellent teamwork, communication, and coordination skills. Immediate joiners or those with short notice are preferred, along with electrical panel testing or E&I commissioning exposure, OEM or EPC background, and basic scripting knowledge (Python, Shell).
