Video Software Engineer Lead

Seeking an exceptional software engineer to lead complex backend projects, focusing on video technologies. Ideal candidate will have expertise in distributed systems, front-end technologies, and scalable architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable backend solutions for video processing features, including encoding, transcoding, and adaptive streaming.
  • Manage various codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) and formats (MP4, WebM, HLS, DASH) using tools like FFmpeg or GStreamer.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements, design solutions, and deliver impactful features.
  • Lead complex backend projects involving multiple engineers, focusing on performance improvements and migrations.
  • Enhance video storage, retrieval, and streaming performance through CDNs, caching, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentor junior engineers, and foster a culture of learning and growth.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to enhance system reliability and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science from a top-tier institution.
  • Over 7 years of backend software development experience, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems and video processing.
  • Proficient in backend technologies such as Python, Java, or Go, with experience in building scalable high-performance systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with video technologies, including video codecs, compression techniques, multimedia frameworks, streaming protocols, and cloud media services.
  • A proven track record of serving as a tech lead and managing complex initiatives within the team.
  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, API design, performance optimization, debugging, and scaling complex applications.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical growth.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle ambiguous requirements to deliver effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with real-time video streaming technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools, distributed databases, caching systems, and message queues.
  • Understanding of DRM, video watermarking, and security best practices.
  • Contributions to open-source multimedia projects.
