CBM Well Engineering Expert

This is a critical role that oversees the development of well plans from concept to execution readiness. The candidate will integrate subsurface knowledge with drilling and completion technologies tailored for CBM fields.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop well plans, including location selection support, for CBM wells (vertical, deviated, multilateral, or cluster).
  • Prepare detailed designs (casing, cementing, well trajectory, mud program) aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
  • Lead in the creation of Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans.
  • Design cost-optimized completions for CBM production (e.g., cavitation, open-hole, or fracked completions)
  • Generate drilling and completion authorization for expenditure (AFE) and monitor actual versus budget performance.
  • Collaborate with procurement and service vendors to select equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies (e.g., slim-hole, underbalanced drilling, horizontal CBM).
  • Evaluate contractor performance to ensure compliance with safety, contractual, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide real-time technical support during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions.
  • Conduct post-well reviews to implement lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with subsurface teams for well targeting and zonal optimization.
  • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to ensure alignment of well delivery schedule.
  • Ensure all well designs comply with DGH, OISD, MoEF, and other statutory regulations.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff.
  • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers for well engineering deliverables.
Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with 3+ years specifically in CBM operations.
  • Proven experience in low-pressure, unconventional gas well design and engineering.
  • Strong understanding of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms.
  • Budgeting and AFE preparation expertise.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
