Senior Apigee Developer

This role involves leading API design initiatives, ensuring best practices, and working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing APIs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy APIs and API proxies using Google Apigee Edge / Apigee X.
  • Implement API policies such as security, traffic management, transformation, and mediation.
  • Define API architecture and governance standards for the organization.
  • Collaborate with business, architecture, and development teams to define API strategy and lifecycle management.
  • Integrate APIs with backend services and external systems.
  • Ensure compliance with authentication, authorization, and data security best practices (OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, etc.).
  • Lead API performance optimization and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior API developers.
  • Work with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines for API deployment.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of IT experience with strong API design and development background.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience in Apigee Edge / Apigee X.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, Java, and Python for API implementation.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API principles and API-first design.
  • Experience with API security protocols: OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML, mTLS.
  • Knowledge of API analytics and monitoring tools.
  • Experience in API versioning, lifecycle management, and governance.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and integration with Apigee.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).

Preferred Skills:

  • GCP certification (Apigee API Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect).
  • Experience with microservices architecture and service mesh.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL and event-driven APIs.
  • Experience with hybrid or on-premise Apigee installations.
