Climate Adaptation Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Climate Adaptation Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will have expertise in developing and implementing climate adaptation strategies that integrate national climate frameworks with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement climate adaptation strategies that align with national climate frameworks, the Paris Agreement, and national development goals.
  • Conduct climate vulnerability and risk assessments across various sectors, including agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Identify and prioritize adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, targeting international mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
  • Foster inclusive stakeholder engagement and consultations involving government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.
  • Design Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.
  • Provide policy recommendations to strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating National Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), or Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Proficiency in conducting Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms, including the GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development is beneficial.
  • A background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles can be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches is preferred.
  • Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
  • Skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies.
