Job Title: Standard Cell Characterization Expert

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead the development of our standard cell library from scratch and support existing libraries.

This role requires a strong understanding of power-performance-area (PPA) tradeoffs between different cell circuit architectures in realistic usage environments.

The ideal candidate will have experience with designing and implementing combinatorial, power management, and sequential circuits using industry-standard electronic design automation (EDA) tools such as RC-extraction, SPICE simulators, and schematic/layout editors.

Additionally, they will work closely with the layout team to define floor plans and layout guidelines for schematics, as well as review layouts to achieve optimal designs.

A key responsibility will be running equivalence verification (e.g., ESPCV) and verifying functionality, performance, and power of developed circuits.

The engineer will also characterize and generate views for libraries with custom process-technology-voltage-corner (PVT) corners, model new and existing cells to support industry-wide physical network on chip (PnR), simulation, and signoff tools, and maintain accurate documentation of work, design flows, and reports.

This is a hands-on role that requires automation skills to reduce overall time and effort. Experience with working on various views like lef, NLDM, CCS, .LIB is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop standard cell libraries from scratch.
  • Conduct PPA tradeoff analysis between cell circuit architectures.
  • Interface with layout team for floor plan and layout guidelines.
  • Perform equivalence verification and functional validation.
  • Characterize and generate views for libraries.
  • Model new and existing cells.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports.
  • Automate manual tasks.
Requirements

For this challenging role, we require:

  • Strong knowledge of digital circuit design and VLSI.
  • Experience with EDA tools such as Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
Bonus Points:

While not required, having the following skills would be a definite advantage:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or Perl.
  • Experience with IC manufacturing process and semiconductor physics.
  • Familiarity with formal verification techniques.
