Music Educator

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate music educator to join our team of professionals dedicated to providing exceptional education and care for children and adults with special needs. As a Music Educator, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the growth and development of our students.

Job Description:

  • Design and implement music lessons tailored to meet the diverse needs and abilities of our students, including those with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation and engagement.
  • Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation, helping students to develop their cognitive, social, and emotional skills.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities and ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks and maintain accurate records, contributing to Individualised Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment, managing behaviour sensitively in line with our positive behaviour support policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education or related field; Certificate course in Music Therapy is an asset.
  • 3-7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream or special school setting.
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education is preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
