Music Educator Role

Our institution provides special education and vocational training for individuals with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

We offer pre-vocational and vocational training programmes, including the NIOS curriculum, supported by a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals providing physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

The music educator will design and deliver music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver Music Lessons: Design music lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, incorporating assistive technologies and adaptive techniques.
  • Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music or related field, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
  • 3 to 7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream school/ Special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing 
  • Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
  • Experience with communication aids
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
