Owning Responsibilities
  • Accountable for product standardization, competitiveness, and external spend competitiveness in standard products and bids.
  • Establish a standardized product BOM within the product portfolio and take ownership of its evolution.
  • Develop a sourcing strategy for the product line, identify preferred suppliers for standard products, and consider regional commodity panels, supplier localization constraints, including lifecycle costs.
  • Pursue cost savings by collaborating with challenging suppliers, commodity buyers, engineering, and operations teams on technical levers such as redesign to cost and make-or-buy decisions.
  • Influence specification convergence across product line projects and encourage the use of carry-over components.
  • Responsible for cost improvement plans for standard products, focusing on cross-purchasing commodities and coordinating activities to meet material cost targets defined by Product Management.
  • Develop and implement a cost modeling toolbox, including historical databases of product tenders, projects, and tender checklists.
  • Cross-site coordination of sourcing efforts.
  • Keep the Product Manager informed about obsolescence and supplier IP-related issues.
  • Manage and challenge upstream activities, obsolete component management, and anticipation.
  • Attend local product platform and R&D meetings and reviews, PCR, ECR management, and execute 'major changes', e.g., major design, process, or technical changes.
  • Bid sourcing competitiveness, challenge and validate bid BOMs defined by project buyers, consolidate REX from previous projects, and incorporate them into tender costing phases, systematize early supplier involvement, and supplier co-development for bids.
