XML Specialist Role Overview

The primary objective of this position is to convert print or digital content into structured XML and ePub formats for digital publishing.

A critical aspect of this role is ensuring content complies with industry standards such as EPUB 3.0, DAISY, HTML5, and accessibility guidelines (WCAG, Section 508).

  • Key Responsibilities include:
  • Converting print or digital content into structured XML and ePub formats.
  • Validating XML/ePub files using tools like EPUBCheck, XML Schema, DTDs, and Schematron.
  • Collaborating with content developers, designers, and QA teams to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Debugging and fixing formatting, layout, and structural issues in XML or ePub files.
  • Developing or maintaining XSLT scripts for transforming content between formats (e.g., XML to HTML/ePub).
  • Handling metadata tagging (ONIX, Dublin Core) for ebooks and digital content.
  • Testing digital products across multiple devices and platforms.
  • Maintaining documentation for workflows, standards, and best practices.
  • Staying updated with new developments in digital publishing standards and tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-10 years of experience in PDF conversion and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG, Section 508, and ADA.
  • Familiarity with accessibility tools like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver is a plus.
  • Attention to Detail and Strong Analytical Skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a hybrid work environment.
  • Experience in the publishing or educational content industry is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
