Cloudflare Web Application Firewall Expert

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cloudflare WAF, with 5+ years of experience in managing and tuning rules, policies, and threat intelligence filters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Cloudflare WAF rules, page shields, and threat intelligence filters to ensure the security of web applications.
  • Tune policies to reduce false positives and enable protection against OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor web traffic anomalies, bot activity, and take preventive actions to prevent security breaches.
  • Integrate WAF alerts with central SIEM/SOC for real-time visibility and incident response.
  • Collaborate with app teams to validate WAF configurations before production rollout and ensure seamless integration.
  • Troubleshoot WAF blocks, performance issues, and content caching anomalies to maintain high application availability.
  • Maintain access control, rate limiting, and geo-restriction rules to ensure secure access to web applications.
  • Generate reports for application owners and participate in threat modeling exercises to identify potential security risks.
  • Assist L3 in rule set upgrades, custom signatures, and API security enhancements to stay ahead of emerging threats.
  • Participate in DR drills and ensure WAF availability in failover scenarios to guarantee business continuity.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on 5 to 7 years' experience with Cloudflare WAF or equivalent (e.g., Akamai, AWS WAF).
  • Understanding of web protocols, application headers, and TLS encryption.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and app security standards.

Certifications:

  • Cloudflare Certified WAF Practitioner (if available)
  • CEH or GIAC Web Application Defender (GWEB)
  • OWASP Top 10 – mastery preferred
