Job Title: Senior Database Administrator (Big Data)

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the optimal functioning of our technology infrastructure in a specific area.

  • Analyze current database systems and propose improvements to enhance performance.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership to establish robust security measures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Manage Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) clusters for high availability and performance.
  • Administer Apache Kafka clusters, focusing on topic management, performance tuning, and security.
  • Provide expert-level database administration for Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL systems, including backup, recovery, and performance optimization.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell scripting and Ansible for deployment, monitoring, and configuration management.
  • Work closely with data engineers and developers to optimize data pipelines and ensure data integrity across platforms.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices across all data platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
  • Act as an individual contributor, taking full ownership of the environment.
  • Create and maintain database access systems, including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Manage database replication between servers, both locally and remotely.
  • Tune and optimize database objects for peak performance.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support.
  • Contribute technical expertise to solution development plans and concept documents.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of business impacts related to IT solutions.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor junior IT staff to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Perform major version upgrades and plan system migrations.
  • Design and implement effective monitoring of enterprise systems.
  • Tune systems based on experience and deep knowledge of the area.
  • Identify potential risks and proactively communicate mitigation strategies.
  • Document technical designs and procedures for team reference.
  • Lead technical projects involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical colleagues and management.
  • Recognize and understand technology's impact within the business.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field, combined with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Exceptional academic record, demonstrating the ability to apply learned knowledge.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Experience with relational or NoSQL database technologies.
  • Proven ability to implement new technologies effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in a small team setting.
  • Consistent demonstration of quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization.
  • Experience with Big Data Technologies, including HDFS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elastic, and SQL Server.
