Steel Design Expert

We are a dynamic engineering team aiming for significant growth and expansion.

The Steel Design Expert will play a key role in our success by delivering high-quality steel structure designs and collaborating with the wider team to ensure seamless project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Derive load paths, equilibrium, buckling & fatigue checks using first-principles before utilizing software.

Analyse and validate steel structures in ANSYS, Dlubal RFEM, and your own spreadsheet to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Collaborate with steel detailers and CAD technicians to turn calculations into buildable drawings that meet client requirements.

Projects across sectors including offshore and marine, bridges, plants, cranes, and heavy frames require the same fundamentals.

Optimize designs by interrogating critical results, safety factors, and fabrication constraints to ensure efficient and safe design solutions.

Conduct QA reviews of models, hand calculations, reports, and fabrication packages; coach junior engineers on 'why' and 'how' to ensure knowledge sharing and development.

Requirements:
  • B.Eng/M.Eng in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years designing steelwork with demonstrable hand-calc proficiency (shear/moment, deflection, connection design, stability).
  • Knowledge of steel grades, weld symbols, fabrication, and erection methods.
  • Ability to read and mark-up 3D CAD and fabrication drawings.
  • Self-starter who balances rigor with deadlines and happily assists the wider team.
