Electrical Systems Specialist

The Electrical Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in designing and developing electrical systems for building and infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and code-compliant electrical designs covering power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.

  • Electrical System Design (HT/LT):

Designing electrical systems involves collaborating with project teams to understand client requirements and electrical load needs. The specialist must prepare electrical load calculations and power distribution layouts including control schematics, design lighting systems, emergency power, grounding & earthing systems, and lightning protection etc. Selection and sizing of equipment including Transformers, Generators, UPS, Panels, Circuit Breakers, Cables, and Switchgear etc. are also essential tasks. Additionally, the specialist must prepare detailed single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring/control schematics, and equipment layouts, as well as design ELV systems (Fire Alarm, CCTV, Access Control, Data & Communication).

Carrying out HV, LV and EIV with load calculations and system design is another critical aspect of this role. Moreover, the specialist must ensure compliance with IEC, NEC, IS, and local authority regulations, staying updated on latest electrical codes, standards, and sustainable design practices.

  • Code Compliance:

Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards is vital for delivering high-quality electrical systems. The specialist must stay abreast of changes in electrical codes, standards, and best practices to maintain the integrity of electrical designs.

  • Technical Support:

Providing technical input during design development and construction is an integral part of this role. The specialist must assist in resolving site-related issues and ensure adherence to design intent. They must also collaborate with project teams to provide timely and effective technical support.

  • Documentation:

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation is essential for this position. The specialist must prepare and maintain electrical design reports, drawings, and calculation sheets, as well as ensure clear and accessible documentation for project teams/records.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, power distribution, and low-voltage systems. A diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is typically required, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar software is also necessary. Knowledge of load analysis software (ETAP, Dialux, etc.) is preferred, as is effective communication and collaboration skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
