Electrical Systems Design Specialist

The role of an Electrical Systems Design Specialist involves the design and modeling of electrical systems in various settings, such as commercial, residential, or industrial projects. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, communications, and low-voltage systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and model electrical systems using Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Revit or AutoCAD MEP.
  • Develop detailed electrical system drawings, diagrams, and layouts to meet design and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other building systems.
  • Conduct clash detection and coordination with other disciplines to resolve design conflicts and ensure smooth construction.

This role also involves collaboration with project teams to understand project requirements and assist in translating those requirements into accurate BIM models. Additionally, the specialist will assist in creating electrical system layouts, specifications, and technical drawings for use in project documentation.

Standards and quality control are essential aspects of this position, ensuring that all electrical designs and models meet industry standards, codes, and regulations. The specialist must also review and update electrical designs to reflect changes or modifications in the project scope or client requirements.

Documentation and reporting are critical components of this role, generating 2D and 3D electrical drawings, schedules, and reports as required by the project. Maintaining and updating project documentation is also crucial, ensuring all relevant data is accurately reflected in the BIM model.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, etc.) and electrical design tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems design (power, lighting, low-voltage systems, etc.) and associated codes and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of building systems and how electrical systems integrate with mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems.
  • Experience in clash detection and resolving conflicts in BIM models.
  • Ability to create and read technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
