Mainframe Storage System Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Storage System Engineer to join our team. As a critical member of our storage infrastructure, you will be instrumental in ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Storage Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Mainframe storage subsystems, ensuring compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Capacity Planning: Perform storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements.
  • Storage Management: Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and optimizing data placement.
  • Disaster Recovery: Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for Mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in Mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • Technical Skills: 8+ years of experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • Storage Virtualization: 8+ years of experience with storage virtualization technologies and concepts, including DASD, VTS, and SAN/NAS storage provisioning.
  • Storage Networking: 8+ years of experience with storage networking protocols and technologies, such as FICON, Fibre Channel, and SCSI.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Certification: IBM Certified Specialist - Storage Technical V2 or equivalent certification in Mainframe storage administration.
  • Mainframe Virtualization: 5+ years of experience with Mainframe virtualization technologies such as z/VM and z/Linux.
  • DevOps: 4+ years of experience utilizing DevOps practices and tools for Mainframe storage administration and automation.
