About the Role

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with database management and administration, specifically with relational database systems. They will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of databases while supporting day-to-day operations, deployments, and data-driven decision-making.

This is a unique opportunity to join our team as a Database Administrator and play a key role in the success of our digital public health delivery platform.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who can install, configure, upgrade, and maintain relational database systems (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle) both on-premises and on cloud (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).

  • Monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations to ensure optimal response times using tools like CloudWatch, Performance Insights, Grafana, or pgAdmin.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, backup, and recovery processes are in place and regularly tested using both traditional and cloud-native approaches (snapshots, automated backups, cross-region replication).
  • Automate routine database maintenance and deployment tasks using CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, or AWS-native services.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Strong hands-on experience with MySQL (experience in SQL Server/Oracle is a plus).
  • Expertise in database monitoring and observability tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, New Relic, Performance Insights).
  • Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning in high-transaction environments.
