Principal Observability Expert

Overview

 

We seek a highly skilled Principal Observability Engineer to join our team. This role will play a critical part in shaping our observability strategy, driving innovation across the organization, and ensuring seamless technical onboarding for engineering teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute technical observability strategies to drive business value and improve overall organizational performance.
  • Lead design and implementation of advanced observability tooling (Elastic, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) to ensure scalability, resilience, and effective data integration.
  • Implement governance and standardization across observability platforms to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Develop clear, practical documentation (runbooks, onboarding guides, wikis) to support knowledge-sharing and enablement.
  • Enable engineering teams through effective technical onboarding, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

 

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in observability pillars: Logs, Metrics, and Traces, with experience integrating them effectively.
  • Advanced knowledge of Elastic Stack, including Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and Beats.
  • Senior-level experience designing and implementing multi-tenant, scalable, and resilient observability architectures using tools like Elastic, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, both within and outside the engineering team.
  • Leadership & Influence: Ability to manage stakeholders and communicate a clear technical vision to both engineering teams and senior leadership.
  • Strategic Thinking: A forward-thinking mindset to anticipate future needs, evaluate emerging technologies, and ensure the observability platform meets long-term business goals.
  • Passion for enabling other engineers through knowledge-sharing, workshops, and effective onboarding.
