We are seeking an experienced Earth Observation Software Developer to join our team. This role involves designing, building and deploying software applications using satellite data from various sources.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Python-based backend development, as well as experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS). They will also be skilled in containerizing applications using Docker, and have a solid understanding of REST principles.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Data Ingestion and Processing Pipeline: Build and maintain automated pipelines to ingest and process raw satellite data from AWS, storing results in a data lake on Amazon S3.
  2. AI Model Training & Integration Framework: Develop a framework in Python to automate machine learning lifecycle, including training, validation, versioning and storage of models for satellite image classification and thermal risk prediction.
  3. Real-time Prediction API: Design and build low-latency REST API using AWS Lambda and API Gateway to serve real-time predictions from AI models.
  4. Frontend Core Feature Implementation: Implement core features of interactive dashboard using React and Mapbox GL JS, focusing on visualisation of complex geospatial heatmap data.
  5. Cloud Infrastructure: Design and construct entire cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with AWS CDK, ensuring platform is secure, cost-effective and scalable.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Deep expertise in either Python-based backend development or React-based frontend development.
  • Essential experience designing, building and deploying services on AWS, with strong command of Lambda, S3, API Gateway and IAM.
  • Thorough understanding of REST principles and proven experience in designing and building APIs from scratch.
  • Proficiency in containerising applications using Docker.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate technical decisions and collaborate with the team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building complex mapping and data visualisation services with Mapbox GL JS or similar libraries.
  • Experience with GIS data processing using libraries like GeoPandas and Rasterio, or familiarity with Google Earth Engine.
  • Experience with ML model serving using frameworks like XGBoost and Scikit-learn.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CDK or Terraform.
  • Previous experience in early-stage start-up, demonstrating ability to build product from version 0 to 1.
