About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Editorial Lead for English language localization to join our team. As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality text-based products, including SDH/CC and English OV Scripts, at an exceptional service level. This critical role provides detailed breakdowns of dialogues, captions, and subtitles for each title, ensuring language adaptors gain valuable insights into adapting dialogues and nuances that resonate with key audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Format, edit, and proofread English transcriptions generated from AI-driven technology for assigned movies/shows based on project plans set up by the Project Management team, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to client parameters.
  • Create subtitles intended for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals (SDH) in Adapt tools, after reviewing transcriptions for assigned titles.
  • Footnote cultural references and expressions for further translation.
  • Perform audio fidelity quality checks and ensure subtitles match audio as per provided parameters.
  • Provide feedback on transcript quality and contribute to improving tools used.
  • Localize language and spelling for British and U.S. English releases.
  • Make corrections, changes, and required additions in English files using Adapt tools, including preparing scripts and converting between formats.
  • Be responsible for creating accurate CC and Speaker tags where required.
  • Develop Key, Names & Phrases lists and tag instances impacting adaptation into other languages and dubbing.
  • Accurately identify, locate, and use team documentation like checklists, work instructions, manuals, client documents, etc.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication to ensure smooth collaboration with cross-functional teams despite changing requests.
  • Elevate potential risks and mitigate issues to prevent delivery and quality degradation.
  • Conduct comprehensive Quality Checks to guarantee final output meets Adapt standards and delivers tasks according to workflow and project milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with Adapt stakeholders to ensure seamless project progress and address shared feedback.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Subtitler, Subtitle Editor, or relevant role in localization is mandatory.
  • Proven experience in media localization and SDH/CC creation is essential.
  • Prior experience creating OV scripts is preferred.
  • Experience using at least one transcription software, preferably Ooona.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, great listening skills, and excellent reading and typing skills (minimum 60 wpm).
  • Outstanding command of English language, grammar, knowledge of other cultures (pop culture references, slang, recent events).
  • Excellent research skills and fact-checking abilities using available resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and good knowledge of computers and internet.
  • Solid understanding of global content delivery platforms.
  • Candidates must hold a graduate degree; a degree in English, translation, Creative Writing, or relevant fields will be considered advantageous.
  • Other spoken languages are a plus.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Proficiency in and curiosity about AI technology related to text-based or subtitling products.
  • Ability to collaborate in a global, cross-functional team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in dubbing is beneficial.
  • Home setup will be required.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality regarding client information and assignments.

Salary Estimate:

The estimated annual salary for this position ranges from $65,000 to $95,000 depending on qualifications and experience, reflecting the complexity of the role and the need for specialized expertise in localization and AI-driven technology integration.
