Job Description

As a Mainframe Storage System Engineer, you will be integral in ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of storage infrastructure. Your expertise in mainframe storage subsystems will help meet data storage and management needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Storage Subsystem Management: Install, configure, and maintain mainframe storage subsystems to ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Storage Capacity Planning: Perform storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements.
  • Storage Administration: Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and optimizing data placement.
  • Disaster Recovery: Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and assistance to internal teams and end-users, troubleshooting and resolving storage-related issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • 8+ years of experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • 8+ years of experience with storage virtualization technologies and concepts, including DASD, VTS, and SAN/NAS storage provisioning.
  • 8+ years of experience with storage networking protocols and technologies, such as FICON, Fibre Channel, and SCSI.
