Safety Strategist

Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a strategic leader to drive our safety culture across multiple sites.

• Role Description:
• Strategy and Governance: Develop and execute the site safety strategy, align local standard operating procedures with corporate requirements, and maintain certified management systems that minimize risks and incidents.
• Regulatory Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with statutory, customer, and corporate regulations; lead regulatory interactions, audits, and corrective action processes to closure.
• Risk Management and Safe Systems: Institutionalize job safety analysis for high-risk tasks, strengthen work permits and lockout/tagout processes, promote near-miss reporting, and conduct toolbox talks and inspections to prevent accidents.
• Culture and Behavior-Based Safety: Champion behavior-based safety and visible leadership; use observations and feedback to reinforce safe behaviors and improve conditions within a comprehensive safety program.
• Emergency Preparedness and Incident Management: Maintain emergency response plans; lead incident investigations and implement timely, effective corrective actions.
• Environmental Stewardship: Oversee wastewater and emissions monitoring, hazardous waste segregation, storage, and disposal, and compliance with pollution control board consents and agreements; drive waste reduction and resource conservation programs.
• Training and Competence: Establish training needs assessments and calendars; deliver induction and role-specific training, toolbox talks, and competency assessments; measure effectiveness and act on feedback.
• Performance, Reporting, and Reviews: Lead business unit reviews, track key performance indicators, publish dashboards, and ensure sustained improvement of safety outcomes and culture.
• Projects and Change: Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on construction, commissioning, and change control initiatives, ensuring inherent safety and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with regulators, customers, auditors, vendors, and external partners for compliance, waste treatment, and technical support; coordinate with human resources, administration, facilities, security, quality assurance, and operations teams.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Master's degree in chemistry or chemical/environmental engineering or bachelor's degree in chemical engineering; diploma in industrial safety preferred; NEBOSH/IOSH certification desirable.
• Experience: 15 to 25 years of EHS leadership experience in pharma/chemical operations with proven multi-site influence, regulatory compliance, and team leadership; strong command of ISO-based safety systems.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of Indian and international safety regulations and standards (e.g., PCB requirements, PESO, hazardous waste norms, permit-to-work systems) with demonstrable audit readiness.

Operational Network:

• Internal: Human resources, administration, facilities, engineering, security, quality assurance, API/formulations, and site leadership for integrated safety execution and governance.
• External: Regulators (PCB, PESO), customers, third-party auditors, waste treatment partners, and technical consultants.
