Well Engineering Specialist

Role Overview:

Lead the execution of well design, planning, and delivery for Coal Bed Methane (CBM) operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Well Design & Planning:
    • Develop well plans for CBM wells, including location selection support, casing design, cementing, and well trajectory.
    • Prepare detailed basis of design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans to ensure technical integrity and compliance with regulations.
    • Design cost-optimized completions for CBM production, considering factors such as coal stability and dewatering strategies.
  • Engineering & Cost Management:
    • Generate drilling and completion authorization for expenditure (AFE) and monitor actual vs budgeted costs.
    • Collaborate with procurement and service vendors to select equipment and materials that meet engineering standards and operational requirements.
    • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies to improve well delivery efficiency and safety.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide real-time technical support to the execution team during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions.
    • Conduct post-well reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement lessons learned.
  • Team Leadership & Coordination:
    • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff to ensure effective collaboration and knowledge transfer.
    • Coordinate with subsurface teams, HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to ensure alignment of well delivery schedules.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure all well designs and activities comply with relevant regulations and obtain necessary permits and approvals.
  • Requirements:
    • Education:
      • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
    • Experience:
      • Over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with at least 3 years specifically in CBM operations.
      • Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.
    • Skills:
      • Proficiency in well design software (Landmark, WellPlan, Compass, StressCheck, etc.).
      • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms.
      • Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
