How You Will Contribute

Ciena's Optical Networks products portfolio comprises a broad family of products for Aggregation, Metro, and Core networks of Telecom Carriers and GCNs. As a successful candidate, you will play a vital role in advancing our automation-focused test strategies for system-level validation, developing feature and solution test strategies, test plans, and test execution for Ciena's Optical Network products based on technologies such as OTN Transport/Switching, and associated Network Management System.

  • Evaluate system requirements and functional specifications to develop comprehensive solution test plans, validating customer use-cases and product capabilities.
  • Develop automation scripts using Automation Framework to validate customer use-case scenarios and workflows, continuing to evolve the capabilities of already developed automation scripts.
  • Execute system-level tests for network elements using fully automated, semi-automated, and manual test methods, providing coverage across all North-bound user interfaces such as CLI, Netconf, Rest, gRPC, etc., as well as Network Management Systems.
  • Analyze and characterize defects found during test execution, working closely with design engineers for debugging and closure of issues.
  • Plan and build test lab environments for solution-level test execution.
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions on Core Optical networks technologies.

The Must-Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or Optical Communications with 6+ years of relevant experience in system test in the telecommunications domain.
  • Expertise in OTN Transport and Automation Development.
  • Fluency in automation language such as Python for test automation.
  • Ability to understand customers' needs, expectations, and perspective, with knowledge of Transport Network Design of Telecom Service Providers and Content Provider Networks, and experience of working with R&D teams on product defects in Customer Networks.
  • Experience in test effort estimation and captive planning based on Requirement Specifications.
  • Proficiency in Test Planning to validate Telecom Network Solutions and Use Case Scenarios that include interactions of different product features, including NMS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience of working closely with design engineers for debugging of product defects.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with a global multi-site team environment.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of test equipment and knowledge of relevant ITU-T, IETF, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
