Assistant Payroll Manager Job Description

The role of an Assistant Payroll Manager is a vital position within any organization, responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll processes.

This includes ensuring timely and accurate processing of employee salaries, maintaining compliance with relevant labor and tax regulations, and generating payroll-related reports.

The Assistant Payroll Manager will be responsible for:

  • Managing monthly payroll processing for all employees, guaranteeing accuracy and timeliness.
  • Validating and reconciling inputs such as attendance records, leave records, new joiners, exits, salary revisions, and variable pay.
  • Maintaining full compliance with statutory requirements (PF, ESI, PT, TDS, gratuity, and other applicable labor laws).
  • Handling employee queries related to salary, taxation, and payroll policies.
  • Preparing payroll MIS, reports, and analytics for management review.
  • Staying updated on changes in labor laws, taxation, and statutory compliance.
  • SUPPORTING process automation, audits, and continuous improvement in payroll systems.

Requirements:

  • A graduate or postgraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, or HR, with MBA/PGDM or CMA/CA qualifications being advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in payroll management, specifically in India.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, including SAP and ADP.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, with advanced formulas and reconciliation skills.
  • Knowledge of income tax and statutory compliance.

Behavioural Skills:

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
