Job Overview

Our team is seeking a seasoned system programmer to administer and support IBM MQ Series on the z/OS platform. This role demands technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration across teams to maintain mission-critical systems.

This position involves installing, configuring, and maintaining IBM MQ Series and File Transfer Edition (FTE) on z/OS. The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of MQ Queue Sharing Groups, FTE configurations, and MQ monitoring tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ Series and MQ FTE on z/OS.
  • Manage MQ objects including queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations.
  • Monitor MQ performance and availability, applying tuning techniques to optimize throughput and reduce latency.
Upgrade Support:
  • Plan and execute upgrades of MQ Series and FTE components on z/OS.
  • Conduct compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure minimal disruption during upgrades.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and version control records for upgrades.
System Programming & Integration:
  • Support integration of MQ with z/OS subsystems including CICS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or Assembler for MQ operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with IBM MQ on z/OS.
  • Deep understanding of MQ Queue Sharing Groups, FTE configurations, and MQ monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in COBOL, REXX, JCL, and related language tools.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in hybrid team environments.

Preferred certifications include IBM MQ Administrator Certification (or equivalent relevant certification).
