Database Expertise Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Expert to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our database infrastructure.

As a Database Expert, you will work closely with application teams to ship solutions that integrate seamlessly with our database systems. You will analyze solutions and implement best practices for supported datastores (primarily MySQL and PostgreSQL). Additionally, you will develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup, and recovery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring database metrics observability and contributing to meeting database objectives.
  • Providing database expertise to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
  • Collaborating with peers to roll out changes to our production environment and helping mitigate database-related production incidents.
  • Automating database infrastructure and providing self-service tools to support engineering efforts.

You will also be part of an on-call rotation with the team to provide timely support for database production issues across services and levels of the stack.

The ideal candidate will have at least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments. Awareness of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP) is essential. Knowledge of the internals of MySQL/PostgreSQL, load balancing solutions, and monitoring tools is also required.

Additionally, strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams are necessary.

Requirements:

  • At least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
  • Awareness of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
  • Knowledge of the internals of MySQL/PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of load balancing solutions such as ProxySQL.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Knowledge of caching (Redis/Elasticache).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation (Terraform/Ansible).
