Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced PDF Accessibility Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accessibility and a keen eye for detail.

The PDF Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that digital content is accessible and meets regulatory compliance. This includes converting documents to accessible formats, conducting accessibility audits, maintaining project documentation, and collaborating with various teams to ensure high-quality deliverables.

The successful candidate will have experience working with accessibility standards such as WCAG, Section 508, and ADA. They will also be familiar with accessibility tools like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is required. Experience in the publishing or educational content industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Convert print or digital content into structured XML and ePub formats for digital publishing.
  • Ensure content is compliant with industry standards such as EPUB 3.0, DAISY, HTML5, and accessibility guidelines (WCAG, Section 508).
  • Validate XML/ePub files using tools like EPUBCheck, XML Schema, DTDs, and Schematron.
  • Collaborate with content developers, designers, and QA teams to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Debug and fix formatting, layout, and structural issues in XML or ePub files.
  • Develop or maintain XSLT scripts for transforming content between formats (e.g., XML to HTML/ePub).
  • Handle metadata tagging (ONIX, Dublin Core) for ebooks and digital content.
  • Test digital products across multiple devices (eReaders, tablets, mobile, desktop) and platforms (Kindle, Apple Books, etc.).

Requirements

  • Experience in PDF conversion and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG, Section 508, and ADA.
  • Familiarity with accessibility tools like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
  • Attention to Detail and Strong Analytical Skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a hybrid work environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
