Senior Application Security Engineer

Pearson is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Application Security Engineer with a strong background in DevOps, Application Security, and Cloud Security. This role will play a crucial part in leading and supporting the integration of security controls into CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Application Security within our organization.
  • Integrate SAST, SCA, IaC scanning, and DAST tools into CI/CD pipelines to ensure robust security posture.
  • Drive security initiatives across GitHub Enterprise Security, focusing on code scanning, secret scanning, and dependency management.
  • Collaborate closely with development, SRE, and cloud teams to embed security best practices throughout the SDLC and DevOps workflows.
  • Manage and optimize CSPM solutions to enforce security policies across cloud assets, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Create reusable security automation patterns and scripts to streamline pipeline coverage and tool effectiveness.
  • Support application security reviews and recommend mitigations for security findings, ensuring timely remediation.
  • Develop dashboards and metrics to track pipeline performance, tool effectiveness, and SLA adherence.
  • Provide expert guidance during secure development, threat modeling, and remediation planning, promoting security awareness across the organization.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Experience in a DevSecOps or Application Security role with a proven track record.
  • Strong working knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and security tooling.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and GCP, including hands-on deployment and management of cloud resources.
  • Working knowledge of SAST, DAST, SCA, IaC, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, and Terraform.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers, cloud teams, and SREs in a security capacity.
  • Understanding of OWASP Top 10, secure coding practices, and the DevOps lifecycle.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with threat modeling or security architecture reviews.
  • Knowledge of container security and Kubernetes security controls.
