Cloud Architect Manager Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Architect Manager to join our team at ScaleneWorks. As a key member of our Corporate IT team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of cloud architecture strategies to support our organization's infrastructure needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of cloud architecture strategies to support the organization's infrastructure needs.
  • Design scalable, secure, and robust cloud solutions that align with business objectives and integrate with existing systems.
  • Stay abreast of emerging cloud technologies and architectural best practices to drive continuous innovation and improvement.
  • Design and implement Azure DevOps automation, ARM template, and DevSecOps recommendations.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization's cloud environments to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
  • Manage cloud resources and services, optimizing for cost-efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate with IT teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of cloud services and applications.
  • Support data migrations from SQL and open-source repositories into modern Azure data services.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix, and document problems, and implement preventive measures.
  • Lead and mentor a team of cloud professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Define clear team goals and performance metrics in line with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures for cloud security, risk management, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Conduct regular security audits and coordinate with security teams to address vulnerabilities and ensure the protection of sensitive data.
  • Provide guidance on cloud security, Azure Policies, and Blueprints, Azure Monitor, and Azure security and governance mechanisms in general.
  • Manage relationships with cloud service providers and vendors to negotiate contracts and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand their needs and translate them into cloud-based solutions.
  • Develop and oversee incident response plans to address service disruptions promptly and minimize impact.
  • Manage the change control process for cloud environments, ensuring changes are tested and implemented without compromising stability.
  • Develop and manage the budget for cloud operations, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud spending, leveraging cost-management tools and techniques to reduce expenses.
  • Provide technical leadership for cloud assessment, forecast, and modernization strategy.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans for cloud services.
  • Conduct regular DR exercises to ensure rapid recovery capabilities in the event of an outage or disaster.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for cloud services to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
  • Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with IT leadership and business executives, providing clear updates on cloud initiatives and their impact on the business.
  • Prepare and present reports on cloud operations, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives.

Who will you partner with?

You will report to the Head of Corporate IT and will have a team of 12 direct reports and an outsourced vendor team. You will also have an opportunity to partner with and learn from colleagues across the Corporate IT Team.

We are looking for a highly experienced Cloud Architect Manager with a deep understanding of cloud computing architecture, including public, private, and hybrid cloud models, cloud service providers, and their services and management tools.

Key Skills:

  • Cloud architecture knowledge, including public, private, and hybrid cloud models, cloud service providers, and their services and management tools.
  • Technical proficiency in designing scalable and resilient cloud solutions, infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, containerization and orchestration technologies, DevOps principles and practices, and automation tools and scripting languages.
  • Security and compliance knowledge, including cloud security principles and best practices, implementing and managing cloud security measures, and compliance frameworks and standards relevant to cloud services.
  • Cost management and operations management skills, including overseeing and optimizing cloud operations for maximum efficiency, reliability, and performance, cloud monitoring and logging tools, and cost optimization strategies for cloud services.
  • Leadership and team management skills, including strong leadership skills to manage and mentor a team of cloud professionals, fostering a collaborative environment, and encouraging knowledge sharing.
  • Problem-solving skills, including excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud issues, and the ability to anticipate potential challenges and proactively implement solutions.
  • Communication skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with IT teams, stakeholders, and vendors, and the ability to translate technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project management skills, including experience with project management methodologies and tools, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.

Education:

A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

Experience:

At least 8 years of progressive experience as a Cloud Engineer/Architect.
