Job Overview

This is a challenging opportunity to work as a senior engineer on Li-ion battery cell design and development.

  • We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the design and optimization of battery cells (anode, cathode, separator, and electrolyte) to meet performance, energy density, and cycle life targets. This role involves developing and executing test plans, evaluating materials based on fundamental characteristics, electrochemical performance, cost, and manufacturability, and collaborating with process engineers to transition cell designs from lab-scale prototypes to pilot-scale manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cell Design and Development: Develop and execute test plans supporting the design and optimisation of Li-ion battery cells.
  • Materials Selection: Evaluate and select materials (active materials, binders, electrolytes) based on fundamental materials characteristics, electrochemical performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Prototype Scale-Up: Collaborate with process engineers to transition cell designs from lab-scale prototypes to pilot-scale manufacturing through the creation and release of materials and assembly specifications.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Integrate design considerations that enhance manufacturability, yield, and cost-efficiency for large-scale production.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve cell performance, safety, and efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in battery cell design and development, preferably in a senior engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of battery cell materials and their properties, including anode, cathode, separator, and electrolyte.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and lean principles.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
