IMS Consultant Position

We are seeking an experienced IMS consultant to fill a key role in our organization.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of IMS architecture, design, and implementation. They will be responsible for defining and maintaining IMS databases, developing and maintaining IMS applications, installing, configuring, and patching IMS regions, monitoring IMS transaction and database performance, and diagnosing transaction failures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement IMS software upgrades, RSU, and feature enhancements.
  • Manage IMS architecture knowledge, including deep understanding of IMS/TM and IMS/DB subsystems, message processing regions, and how IMS fits within a z/OS Sysplex.
  • Define and maintain IMS databases using DBDs and PSBs, controls for segmentation, and execute DL/I utilities.
  • Install, configure, and patch IMS regions, manage control blocks, and orchestrate deployments via SMP/E or z/OSMF.
  • Monitor IMS transaction and database performance, adjust IMS buffer pools, and optimize logging and threading for SLAs.
  • Diagnose transaction failures, database lock contention, and communication errors using trace tools and dumps.
  • Implement IMS restart strategies (cold, warm, and concurrent restarts) and integrate with DFSMShsm for log retention and recovery.
Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge of IMS architecture and design.
  • Proficiency in defining and maintaining IMS databases.
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining IMS applications.
  • Skills in installing, configuring, and patching IMS regions.
  • Ability to monitor IMS transaction and database performance.
  • Strong analytical skills for diagnosing transaction failures.
  • Knowledge of IMS restart strategies and integration with DFSMShsm.
