Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Fresh Produce Specialist to lead the development and execution of category growth plans for a diverse portfolio including vegetables (onion, garlic, potato, tomato) and fruits (apple, orange).

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales, profitability, and expansion by building strong supplier networks across regions, negotiating procurement contracts, and optimizing farm-to-customer movement.

They will work closely with senior management to create a reliable, efficient, and scalable fresh produce ecosystem, aligning with company goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Category Strategy & Planning
    • Develop and execute growth plans across vegetables and fruits.
    • Track market trends, customer demand patterns, and supply chain dynamics.
    • Define assortment strategy for each category, considering variety, pack size, and sourcing region.
  • Sales & Business Development
    • Directly drive sales of assigned categories across various channels.
    • Build strong customer relationships and close deals to achieve revenue and margin targets.
    • Oversee sales team performance and provide training and support for continued growth.
  • Sourcing & Supplier Development
    • Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring consistent quality and supply reliability.
    • Negotiate procurement contracts, focusing on price competitiveness and long-term partnerships.
    • Explore opportunities for off-season coverage and import/export initiatives.
  • Operations & Supply Chain
    • Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to optimize sourcing, grading, packaging, and logistics processes.
    • Minimize wastage and cost through efficient supply chain management.
    • Ensure freshness and availability of products across the portfolio.
  • Financial & Performance Management
    • Own financial performance of assigned categories, managing revenues, margins, and working capital.
    • Monitor SKU profitability, waste levels, and demand-supply alignment.
    • Provide regular performance dashboards highlighting risks and opportunities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of fresh produce value chains, including farm production, seasonality, and market dynamics.
  • Hands-on sales experience with a proven track record of closing deals and growing revenue.
  • Negotiation and vendor management expertise, with a focus on building long-term partnerships.
  • Analytical skills to track market trends, customer demand patterns, and category economics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, operations, sales, and finance.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on execution and results-driven decision making.
  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 6-10 years of experience in F&V category management, commodity sourcing, or modern trade supply chains.
