Energy Storage Specialist Job Description

The role of an Energy Storage Specialist involves designing and implementing battery-based energy storage systems. This encompasses electrical design, including PCS, BMS, EMS, and SCADA designs. The specialist must be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and regulations in the USA.

Due diligence and owner's engineer experience are essential for reviewing technical documents and installations for compliance. Knowledge of fundamental aspects and main characteristics of current battery technologies and their relation to battery parameters is also required.

Responsibilities include preparing FAT and integration test plans for BESS systems, conducting technical reviews of vendor-provided documents. Project management of bids and projects throughout their life cycle is another critical aspect. Evaluating electrical testing using appropriate PPE and procedures, and attending training sessions on equipment as provided by manufacturers and approved by managers are also part of this role.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in BESS.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a relevant field. Ph.D. holders in similar fields are also welcome.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
  • At least 3 years of electrical knowledge or training experience in BESS.
  • Excellent organization, communication, analytical, planning, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Client management, team management, and process management skills.
  • Familiarity with other electrical and PV software is an added advantage.
