Database Administrator Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to oversee the performance, availability, and security of our critical database systems. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting diverse database environments, performing routine administration tasks, troubleshooting complex issues, and contributing to database optimization and maintenance.


Responsibilities:
  • Database Administration Tasks:
  • Installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades for various database technologies.
  • Monitor database health, performance, and capacity, taking proactive steps to resolve issues and ensure optimal operation.
  • Execute and verify database backups and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity and availability.
  • Conduct performance tuning of SQL queries and database configurations to enhance application response times.
  • Manage database security, user access, and permissions in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related incidents and problems, acting as an escalation point for support teams.
  • Participate in database design reviews, contribute to schema changes, and support application development teams.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator at a senior level.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Strong proficiency in administering relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Solid experience with database backup and recovery methodologies (e.g., RMAN for Oracle, native backups for SQL Server).
  • Hands-on experience with database performance monitoring and tuning tools.
  • Understanding of database security principles and user management.
  • Ability to write and optimize SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server) relevant to database hosting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills for database issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services.
  • Scripting proficiency for automation.
  • Relevant database administration certifications.
