Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and firefighting systems for various projects.

The successful candidate will have expertise in design appropriate plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary, storm water, hot water, and gas systems, as well as knowledge of International Plumbing design codes.

In addition, they will possess strong calculation skills, with the ability to perform calculations as directed by senior engineers. They will also be proficient in Revit and able to work in Building Information Modeling (BIM) environments.

The role requires excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate and collaborate with other in-house disciplines to develop designs.

  • Design Responsibilities:
  • Design plumbing system layouts, including pipe sizing and equipment selection.
  • Conduct heat load calculations using tools like HAP to determine heating and cooling requirements for buildings.
  • Select equipment based on project specifications.
  • Calculate ventilation requirements, pressurization needs, smoke management systems, pump head calculations, external static pressure, and sizing ducts and pipes.
  • Select air distribution components like Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, grilles, diffuser, louvers, etc.
  • HVAC Responsibilities:
  • Design HVAC systems, including water-cooled and air-cooled chiller plants, Variable Refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, Direct Expansion (DX) systems, etc.
  • Apply knowledge of international codes and standards in HVAC system design.
  • Plan and design HVAC systems considering energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor air quality.
  • Firefighting Systems Responsibilities:
  • Design fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and hydrants, according to national and international codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems.
  • Design and layout fire detection and alarm systems.

Requirements:

We require a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 8-15 years of experience in Plumbing/HVAC & Firefighting. A strong portfolio showcasing your design skills and experience is essential.
