Overview

The Powertrain Engineer is a critical role that ensures the seamless integration of vehicle components and sub-systems. This includes collaborating with various functional areas to ensure representation and input.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Develop high-voltage cable packages, busbars, and their layouts along with plastic carriers required for HV and LV battery packs.
  2. Update harness routing and busbar based on repackaging of interface components, coordinating with system integration engineering teams.
  3. Analyze energy storage system (battery) sizing for targeted vehicle performance.
  4. Collaborate with systems engineers to implement design changes during program development, prototype, and production build phases according to project timelines.
  5. Perform stack-up analysis on designed components.
  6. Develop harness/busbar/cell packaging, identify issues, and drive resolution prior to validation builds.
  7. Create test cases, design rules, or requirements as needed.
  8. Benchmark and develop concepts.
  9. Work on QAF, RFQ, and support plans with suppliers/buyers and VFM teams.
  10. Design and manage DFMEA, PFMEA, BOD, and BOP.
  11. Ensure Grade/EMC/Safety Compliance.
  12. Design and develop interface plastics/sheet metal components required in battery enclosures.
  13. Support part development in-house or at supplier ends.
  14. Support part testing at suppliers or in-house according to DV or PV.
  15. Participate in supplier PPAP activities and periodic audits to improve quality and processes.
  16. Support builds, create supply plans for M1/VB, and production cars (saleable vehicles).
  17. Solve build issues and contain/fixed issues on current production vehicles.
  18. Support creating circuit schematics and validate circuits for full vehicle architecture.
  19. Release 3D harness assembly models in PLM.
  20. Experience change management processes like Engineering Change Requests.
  21. Select harness coverings based on 3D model routing and packaging & surrounding geometry.
  22. Develop harness packaging issue lists and drive resolutions prior to validation builds.
