Geospatial Technology DeveloperA pioneering opportunity awaits an innovative Geospatial Technology Developer to spearhead the creation of cutting-edge geospatial solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to drive the development of our platform, leveraging expertise in Python-based backend development, React-based frontend development, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development, with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience, and a thorough understanding of REST principles. They will be able to design, build, and deploy services on AWS, utilizing Lambda, S3, API Gateway, and IAM. Additionally, they should have proficiency in containerising applications using Docker and demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical challenges.We value strong communication skills to articulate technical decisions and collaborate effectively with the team. Experience building complex, interactive mapping and data visualisation services with Mapbox GL JS or similar libraries is desirable. Familiarity with GIS data processing using libraries like GeoPandas and Rasterio, or Google Earth Engine, is also beneficial.This role involves working on a variety of tasks, including:
  • Building and maintaining automated pipelines for ingesting and processing raw satellite data from sources like the Registry of Open Data on AWS.
  • Developing a framework in Python to automate the machine learning lifecycle, including training, validation, versioning, and storage of models for satellite image classification and thermal risk prediction.
  • Designing and building a low-latency REST API using AWS Lambda and API Gateway to serve real-time predictions from AI models.
  • Implementing the core features of the interactive dashboard using React and Mapbox GL JS, focusing on intuitive visualisation of complex geospatial heatmap data.
  • Designing and constructing the entire cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with the AWS CDK, ensuring the platform is secure, cost-effective, and scalable.
