Senior Database Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Specialist to join our Infrastructure Platform Engineering team at a time of growth and development.

  • Develop and maintain standards for database builds, database security, patching, high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor and configure database resources to ensure optimum performance.
  • Handle database procedures such as backup, restore and database version upgrades.
  • Undertake maintenance and upgrade tasks generally out of normal business hours including weekends.
  • Provide database design support to development projects.
  • Undertake database performance tuning and diagnostics.
  • Assist platform administrators to support applications that use our databases.
  • Provide support shift cover and be available for on-call service.
  • Seek and implement opportunities for automating manual database management tasks.
  • Evaluate and implement strategies to align to IT security policies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience of supporting business critical applications in a multi data center environment.
  • Extensive experience in ORACLE 12c and 19c Database Administration, RAC, Grid Infrastructure, ASM, ACFS, Data Guard, RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Database Upgrades, Database Patching, Solaris X86, Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Database Infrastructure installs, upgrades and patching.
  • Database high availability and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience of supporting databases in a Cloud environment.
  • Automation of database administration tasks.
  • Experience of using DevOps tools.
  • Understanding of ITIL Service Framework.
  • Shell Scripting.
