Technical Specialist - Mainframe zOS System Administration

Job Summary:

This is a key role within the mainframe team, responsible for the overall technical direction and operations of the zOS platform.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mainframe system administration, with a strong background in planning, implementation, and maintenance of zOS systems.

  • Provide technical expertise in architecture planning, migration, installation, and configuration of new projects on the zOS platform.
  • Lead the design of a scalable and extensible solution, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Conduct technology capacity planning to meet current and future requirements.
  • Implement disaster recovery plans and create backup and recovery procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, troubleshooting issues, conducting root cause analysis, and developing fixes.
  • Plan and manage upgradations, migrations, maintenance, backups, installations, and configurations.
  • Review and improve the technical performance of the zOS platform.
  • Develop shift rosters to ensure no disruption in operations.
  • Create and update SOPs, data responsibility matrices, operations manuals, daily test plans, and data architecture guidance.
  • Provide weekly status reports to stakeholders on database activities.
  • Leverage technology to develop Service Improvement Plans through automation and other initiatives.

Team Management: Manage a team of mainframe specialists, ensuring 100% compliance to Wipro's standards of adequate onboarding and training. Build an internal talent pool of HiPos and ensure their career progression.

Performance Management: Set goals for direct reportees, conduct timely performance reviews, and give constructive feedback.

Employee Satisfaction and Engagement: Lead and drive engagement initiatives for the team, track satisfaction scores, and identify initiatives to build engagement.

Deliverables: Operations of the tower SLA adherence, Knowledge management, CSAT, Customer Experience, identification of risk issues and mitigation plans, New projects, Timely delivery, Avoid unauthorized changes, No formal escalations.

Mandatory Skills: Mainframe zOS System Admin experience, 5-8 years.
